ABOUT SHIVA KUMAR SHANMUKHAPPA

As Comparative Veterinary Pathologist, I have extensive experience in interpretation of varied animal models of human diseases. Some of the disease models that I have worked include Sickle Cell Disease, Renal diseases, NASH, NAFLD, HIV/AIDS, Biliary Atresia, Primary Biliary Cirrhosis, Liver Fibrosis, Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Cohn’s and Ulcerative Colitis. Majority of my collaborative research pathology experience has resulted in publications, presentations & grants. I also have considerable experience in evaluation of mouse embryos in a setting of toxicity as well as phenotypic characterization of genetically modified mouse. In addition to mouse, I have also experience evaluating rhesus macaque, zebra fish and Xenopus tissues in context of human disease models. I have also experience evaluating safety and toxicology of stem cells therapy, gene therapy as well new drug therapy prior to FDA IND submission. In addition, I perform image analysis for researchers for cell count, fibrosis evaluation, colocalization using image J as well as Aperio Image scope systems. As a researcher, I have vast first-hand experience in performing hypothesis driven research. Some of the research areas I have worked include viral pathogenesis, virus-host interactions, liver repair and regeneration, stem cell induction, Liver fibrosis, Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), Non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), as well as metabolic complications of HIV all of which have resulted in publications and presentations.
