ABOUT SHIRLEY WILLIAMS

BIOGRAPHY Shirley Williams has been a full-time, professional, award-winning artist for almost 30 years. She is best known for her multi-layered abstract paintings inspired the organic rhythms of nature and energy buzz of color. Williams’ organic abstract paintings have been exhibited across North America to international acclaim. Her work has been featured in numerous solo and juried group exhibitions in museums and commercial art galleries in Toronto, Detroit, Dallas, Austin, New York, San Francisco and Naples. Major corporate collections include, Hub International, Caesars International, General Motors, BMO Financial, Ethan Allen Global and A&W Food Service, to name only a few. Her paintings can also be found in several public collections. These include Ronald McDonald House, University of Windsor, Ste. Cecile Academy Library and WF Credit Union. Shirley Williams has won numerous Art Grants over the years. She was the recipient of the prestigious Endowment for the Arts, Elizabeth Havelock Foundation Award in 2012 for mid-career artists. She was also honored to receive a Letter of Recognition from Canadian Prime Minister Harper and Mayor Ed Francis, City of Windsor in 2013. In 2007 she collaborated with Grammy winning symphony conductor, Maestro John Morris -Russell of the Windsor Symphony Orchestra on a fund-raising project as Visual Artist in Residence over a one-year period. She currently works in a large airy warehouse studio with a small Studio Gallery attached. Shirley Williams is represented in the USA by ADC Fine Art and online by Saatchi Art. ARTIST STATEMENT Color and texture are the most important elements in my work, establishing the atmosphere of each painting. Textured layers of warm, cool, bright or subdued colors in contrasting light and dark values overlap to create vibrational fields of energy on the canvas. My paintings evoke thoughts of horizons and nature. Both color and nature alter our consciousness and lift our spirits. In the same way that being in nature energizes us, my intention is to express this subtle energy boost through paint that flows from my hands to the canvas and out to the viewer. In a world dominated by manufactured surfaces, my ultimate goal is to create a tactile experience of color that emits vibrational energy.
