The New York Power Authority (NYPA) is the largest state public power organization in the U.S., founded in 1931 with the mission to harness the State’s natural resources to provide reliable power at a low cost. NYPA generates nearly a quarter of New York State’s electricity and operates one‑third of its transmission lines. More than 80 percent of NYPA’s power comes from clean, emissions‑free hydropower, supporting the state’s progress toward a sustainable energy future.
