About Shinyi Tan

I am an artist at heart - I approach life (and consequently how I program) through art. Art makes life more enjoyable. So whether we\'re considering a well designed chair or clean, efficient code, both generate a beautiful user experience and is, thus, to me, art. From this perspective, art is not so different from science. As a graphic designer, high school science teacher, digital illustrator, research lab assistant, video producer, and developer, I’ve observed that artists and scientists alike seek to find patterns in the natural world to better the lifestyle of others. Despite the similarities, society clearly distinguishes these two fields. Pursuing a career in medicine or becoming a science educator meant giving up my artistic side. Likewise, my jobs in the creative industry never satisfied my desires to analyze and engineer. Then, I discovered programming. For me, programming is the perfect blend of art, science, and adventure. As a scientist, I can manipulate data and solve relevant problems; as an artist, I can create beautiful layouts that help people have better user experiences.
