About Shibdas Roy
Based on quantum mechanics, a quantum computer can solve in minutes certain problems that would take a classical computer a billion years! Quantum estimation, say of an optical phase in a quantum system, plays a key role in quantum computation & information, as also in quantum metrology and gravitational wave detection. My PhD was on optimization & robustness problems to improve such estimation schemes. Further to my PhD, I continued working on quantum estimation and control theory, exploring, in particular, feedback control in quantum error correction, and also fundamental limits on parameter estimation imposed by quantum mechanics in the presence of noise. Moreover, I briefly studied machine learning in Python as applied to quantum information processing. Besides, I have recently developed keen interest and have been working on more fundamental aspects of theoretical physics, viz. at the interface of quantum information and gravity. I have also recently developed interest in addressing key challenges in quantum computation and information by designing novel quantum algorithms.
