About Sherman Hom
Cannabis testing:In 2012 at the NJ DOH Public Health & Environmental Laboratories, I led a team of chemists, who validated methods to quantify cannabinoids, heavy metals, and mycotoxins for cannabis flower.Cannabis Testing Regulations:In 2017, I created the first medical cannabis testing regulations by state that was updated 5X and performed data analyses. Presented a poster at the 2nd North American Cannabis Summit in LA in January 2019.In 20••••21, I was project manager for the cannabis Microbial Testing Unit. I gained approval for the required tests with their action levels and built out the lab, but was stymied by the pandemic.In May 2021, I joined Medicinal Genomics Corp.(Beverly, MA) as their Director of Regulatory Affairs. Primary responsibility is to educate & make recommendations to cannabis, hemp, and psychedelic mushroom regulatory officials for microbial contamination testing rules based on scientific priniples. As of 11/2025, 75% of the US jurisdictions have partially or fully adopted our test recommendations. Based on a microbiome study of >2200 cannabis tissues (in collaboration with Dr. Zamir Punja, in 2026 I have been sharing with US jurisdictions with leagal programs our Version 2.0 species specific microbial testing regulations recommendations that will be in 2 phases. In FY25 H2, I have been supporting the One Plant Policy Programam as a cannabis microbial contamination subject matter expert. NOTE: A \"one plant\" policy regarding cannabis and hemp refers to the concept of regulating all varieties of the Cannabis sativa L. plant under a single, cohesive framework, rather than the current bifurcated system. This project is primarily a legal and legislative initiative aimed at reconciling the contradictory federal treatment of cannabis and hemp. Also I participate with international standards organizations, such as AOAC International (Cannabis Analytical Science Program Microbial Contamination Working Group) and ASTM International (D37.03 Cannabis Subcommittee on Laboratory Testing) to support the creation of microbial contamination test standards. These standards will allow test developers to develop and validate microbial tests using cannabis as a sample type. Life Finale:I will exit these emerging industries and I will start The Hom & Conyers Families Foundation to support peace, culture, and education for the sake of the youth of the world by 2030 with $10 million.
