ABOUT SHERI FREEMONT

Compassion advocate and spreader. In any space I engage, I seek to employ principles of acting with compassion, to reduce the suffering of all of us working to bring humanity more intentionally into the world. My primary professional area- the child welfare legal field- is aching for more humanity for ourselves, one another and the families and children we serve. In my role with Casey Family Programs, I work with a strong team of experts and many national partners in the legal field to improve child welfare systems specifically related to the impacts judges and lawyers can have for children and families. I advocate for safety, cultural humility, and critical lens towards long standing practices. I am also focused on assisting the legal field better apply the human skills we often are not taught in law school, including trauma understanding and bias awareness, all rooted in the science and natural human capacities for compassion. I am passionate about investing appropriate resources in our work force in these human areas, including recruitment, retention and trauma- management. Indigenous community service and values have always guided me and I hope to keep opportunities to serve open. I serve as an Associate Judge for the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians, where I am a tribal member.
