ABOUT SHER MUHAMMAD

My research examines the link between gender and politics, especially women’s political participation, gender quotas, and state feminism. I am even more intrigued by how gender interacts with policy and governance, which includes but is not limited to, women’s representation in legislative bodies, the politics of gender equality across different regimes, and the socio-cultural determinants of women’s engagement in electoral politics. Moreover, my research explores the socio-political angles of violence against women, its nexus with political backlash, and the implications of local government reforms for women’s empowerment. Additionally, I conduct critical assessments of international efforts like the gender parity goals set by the United Nations, as well as the conventions on women’s political rights, and do comparative research on state policies toward women’s activism and representation. With this interdisciplinary focus, I seek to give my input to the wider debates on issues of gender equity, women’s issues, and the prospects and difficulties of feminist policymaking around the world and in each country.
