ABOUT SHENIR DENNIS

Hello and Welcome! My name is Shenir Dennis, and I am (currently) a San Jose State University graduate student pursuing my Master of Arts in Teaching and Single Subject Credential in English. I was born and raised in the Bronx, NY, but moved to Santa Clara, CA, in 2018 to attend Santa Clara University (SCU) as an undergraduate. In Spring 2022, I received my B.A. in English and Ethnic Studies (including a minor in Women\'s and Gender Studies) from SCU. Since graduating from SCU, I worked as a College Adviser Fellow (CAF) for the Destination College Advising Corps (DCAC) Program at UC Berkeley. As a former CAF, I upheld DCAC\'s mission of \"[increasing] college access for low-income, first-generation, and underrepresented high school students.\" by providing resources, knowledge, and individualized support to students navigating the college process and other post-secondary options at Gunderson High School, a local public school in San Jose. My work as a CAF inspired me to pursue a career as an educator, as I hope to support more students like those I served at Gunderson in becoming more academically prepared for post-secondary pathways like college. Although my leadership experiences have given me valuable assets and skills, I am currently searching for educator roles in school districts throughout the Bay Area to teach high school English.
