ABOUT SHEMAR HOUSTON

From the age of 13, I have been deeply fascinated by computers. Writing my first piece of code felt almost like possessing a superpower, and I quickly became eager to learn more about game scripting, computer systems, networking, and development. At the time, I didn’t realize that what I was doing could be considered a legitimate career—I was simply a kid enjoying a hobby. At 18, I spent a few years working in retail and warehouse environments, gaining experience in machine operation, truck unloading, and physically demanding labor. Although I was a dedicated worker, I knew that path wasn’t meant for me. As a natural introvert, I decided to challenge myself by trying sales. Initially, I had doubts about my ability to succeed, but I soon proved myself wrong. During my time as a salesperson, I acquired valuable skills such as prospecting, SPIN Selling, cold calling, and organizational structuring. I also read books like How to Win Friends and Influence People to sharpen my understanding of communication and social interaction. Despite my success in sales, I still felt unfulfilled. I realized my true passion lay in cybersecurity and development. Seeking an opportunity to break into the field, I discovered an internship that provided coding training. I immediately signed up and embraced the opportunity. Today, I am a junior developer, and for the first time, I feel like I am on the right path. My diverse experiences have played a significant role in shaping me into the developer I am today. I have gained expertise in JavaScript, React.js, Express.js, Agile and Waterfall methodologies, requirements gathering, and much more. I remain committed to continuous learning and am excited about the bright future ahead as I progress on this journey.
