ABOUT SHEILA BARNETT

Academic Anesthesiologist with significant healthcare administration experience. Chair of Anesthesiology for Dartmouth Health. Passionate about all aspects of perioperative medicine with research interest and expertise in geriatric anesthesiology, preoperative testing, graduate medical education, and health care quality. Prior to moving to Dartmouth have held multiple leadership positions within Beth Israel Lahey Health and Harvard Faculty Medical Physicians. Passionate about patient safety and patient experience. Expertise with value based hospital programs and high reliability systems. Expertise in leading multidisciplinary teams with the hospital. Served as CMO at BID Milton and co-incident commander during COVID pandemic for the hospital. Previously helped create and establish the BIDMC Transfer Center, working with interdisciplinary teams to ensure safe and efficient transfers between hospitals. Extensive teaching experience with medical students, residents, fellows, and peers. Honored for excellence and innovation in teaching.Multiple leadership roles in professional societies and organizations, including President of the Massachusetts State Society of Anesthesiologist and Co-founder of the Society for the Advancement of Geriatric Anesthesia (SAGA). Editor of three text books. Author and co-author of dozens of book chapters, reviews, and peer-reviewed publications. Regular presenter at regional, national, and international professional conferences.
