About Shayna Silverman

I am a recent graduate from the University of Maryland with a BS in Environmental Science and Policy and a concentration in Wildlife Ecology and Management. I am now working as an Environmental Specialist for Gateway Engineers. My responsibilities include: writing ESA Phase 1, environmental, and soil infiltration reports, completing wetland and stream delineations, collecting soil data and calculating infiltration rates, as well as basic CAD design and environmental permitting. I am hoping to pursue a career in environmental consulting or sustainability reporting in the long-term.

   As an Environmental Specialist with Gateway Engineers, I work with my fellow environmental professionals to protect our ecosystems from construction-based pollutants and consult with our company’s engineers to develop construction practices that work with rather than against the environment. My job duties include- Wetland/stream delineations, infiltration testing, Phase I Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs), and their accompanying summary reports- Completing and submitting environmental permits, such as an NDPES, for various civil engineering projects- Developing basic CAD skills while working on Erosion and Sediment Control Plans (E&S) and Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans Calculating the drainage areas of large land development projects to inform the implementation of stormwater control practices- Utilizing a TDC650 in the field and ArcPro in the office to map environmental features in space. Software and programs utilized: CAD, ArcPro, Web Soil Survey, eMap, Pennsylvania Natural Diversity Inventory (PNDI), National Wetlands Inventory (NWI), EDR Lightroom, etc.
