About Shawn Casserly
When I first started my career working as a Technical Support Engineer, I found that I had a peculiar interest in our Data Analytics group who worked with customers on creating and editing Tableau dashboards for hospitals to improve patient care. Once I realized how much I enjoyed working on dashboards, I wanted to take it up a notch and start working with data from end to end. I started working with our Technical Support data and gathering that on a weekly basis from our NetSuite application and using a custom SSIS package that a colleague and I created. Once we had the data structured as needed, we were able to manipulate the data with Tableau and Grafana which led to the department being able to state the case that we needed more staffing. After this, I found a great opportunity at U. S. Steel as an Application Analyst II. In this role I work on projects that deal with Power Platform, Tableau, Blue Prism Process Automation and Generative AI technologies. I am currently spear-heading a project to help reduce our automation application costs by 80% per year. I also completed a project working with Tableau and ABBYY Timeline to help show bottlenecks in the steelmaking process. This project helped free up $4.5 million in opportunity costs within the organization. During this project, it helped prove that I am adept at bridging communication between technical and non-technical stakeholders across the organization.I am actively expanding my knowledge of data engineering, with a focus on hands-on experience using AWS and GCP. I hope that with my knowledge in data analysis and engineering will help keep me up on new technologies and make me a well-rounded analyst.
