Completed first tour as a part of the Structural Mechanics branch of the structural engineering division in Spring 2025 working as a structural analyst specializing in finite element methods to assess damage tolerance in composite structures. Supported both the Orion and Commercial Crew programs by developing tools to model composite defects and evaluate flight suitability.Supported Orion AR2 by assisting the Fracture Control Board and performing critical analysis on a high-visibility programmatic issue. Contributed to a Tiger Team investigating sandwich composite core splice defects in primary structures, using Femap and MSC Marc Mentat to develop VCCT breakout models. Extracted effective stiffness and allowables, which were incorporated into a global model to prove positive stress margins. Validated flight suitability for major flight panels and significantly reduced the required repair footprint. Also supported fracture verification efforts by shadowing Fracture Control Board meetings.Supported the Commercial Crew Program by creating a MATLAB script to rapidly generate models of composite laminate wrinkle defects. Developed parametric equations to define wrinkle geometries based on customizable parameters, and automated the generation of LS-DYNA input files and macros compatible with LS-PrePost. This reduced model creation time from over 30 minutes to under 30 seconds. The tool was used to produce large datasets for investigating strength knockdowns caused by wrinkle defects.
