   I started Bloomberg’s CTO Office in 2008 with a focus on creating a team of tech leaders with deep expertise in their respective fields that would combine tech research, user experience design, and product management. We focus on strategic topics and build new capabilities for the company. I’m responsible for the product management of the Terminal product. I led the effort to evolve its UX and technology, carefully modernizing its tech stack and interface, while greatly expanding its capabilities and features. The CTO Office leads the company’s overall Machine Learning strategy. Together with the AI Engineering group, we research ML topics with academic researchers from top universities worldwide. We research new ways to apply ML to finance, creating new internal and client-facing products along the way. One recent critical growth initiative was the creation of a new line of products centered around Alternative Data, which promise to be an essential aspect of our financial analytics. We introduced BQuant, Bloomberg’s most technologically-advanced enterprise product. It’s aimed at enabling quants, data scientists, and sophisticated analysts to create, test, and share investment research and to build production workflows in the public cloud. I lead Bloomberg’s Information Security program. The Security Architecture department, the Chief Information Security Office, and the Risk and Compliance Office are all part of the CTO Office. They work together with various engineering teams to implement state-of-the-art security controls and use advanced data science techniques for monitoring and investigations. I also led Bloomberg’s transition to an ‘open source first’ strategy and created our Open Source Program Office (OSPO), which governs our engineers’ use of, and contributions to, open source software projects. The CTO Office leaders are the sponsors, architects, and project managers for much of Bloomberg’s core cloud, network, and real-time data infrastructure.
