The role of the academic board is to oversee the academic governance of the College. In particular, I was approached to provide an international perspective both on the changes facing contemporary photography and the higher education landscape but also to offer guidance and for the support and implementation of pedagogic innovation.PSC is a leading provider of specialist photographic higher education, consecutively winning the Photography Institute of the Year by Australian Institute of Professional Photography (AIPP) since 2010. In 2016, they were also proud winners of the Student of the Year award. ABOUT JONATHAN SHAW

I am the Director of Educational Innovation and Product Development at Coventry University, where I lead institution‑wide digital learning initiatives and advance technology‑enhanced teaching practice. I also play a key leadership role in the product development of Aula, our engagement‑led learning experience platform, acquired by the Coventry University Group in 2022 to deliver more social, inclusive, and high‑engagement digital learning at scale.Alongside this role, I am a Professor of Photography and Media with over two decades as an interdisciplinary practitioner and academic leader. I previously co‑founded and directed the Disruptive Media Learning Lab (DMLL), shaping next‑generation learning environments, open education practices, innovative curriculum design, and partnerships with leading educational technology start‑ups. Inspired by the radical inventiveness of photography’s origins, I am driven to create transformative experiences that challenge assumptions and extend the possibilities of networked media and higher education. My leadership philosophy is rooted in a values‑based, people‑first approach. I built the DMLL from the ground up—establishing trust, inclusion, and a high‑performance culture where teams thrive—and, more recently, I have taken this to a global, remote‑first stage by writing the business strategy, developing the organisational plan, and expanding the Aula product development team through a new international partnership. My creative and practice‑based research has been published alongside pioneers such as Eadweard Muybridge and Harold Edgerton, reflecting a tradition of experimentation where the camera serves as both scientific instrument and artistic tool. I have been recognised as part of an early generation of artists whose work blurs the boundaries between the still and moving image. My research was selected as one of four impact case studies submitted for the 2021 Research Excellence Framework (REF) in Art and Design, where it was assessed as world‑leading or internationally excellent.I remain active across the professional and cultural sectors, serving as International Academic Board Member for Photography Studies College in Melbourne, and previously as Chair of Birmingham Open Media, Trustee of The Photographers’ Gallery in London, Visiting Professor at Bournemouth University’s Centre for Excellence in Media Practice, and Chair of the Association for Photography in Higher Education.
