About Shaun Martin

Shaun Martin is a highly accomplished strategic planner, program entrepreneur and manager, fundraiser, trainer and communicator with expertise in the fields of nature-based solutions, climate change adaptation and resilience, biodiversity conservation, capacity building, international educational exchange and cross-cultural communications. Shaun has devoted the past 15 years of his career to shifting the conservation paradigm from one that restores the past to one that prepares people and nature for a very different future. He uses his strengths and expertise to help empower others to integrate climate change considerations into their work to manage risk and build resilience. He has given dozens of talks and training workshops in 34 countries on six continents for diverse audiences including students and educators, philanthropists, conservation scientists, development professionals and government ministers.Shaun holds a bachelor’s degree in chemistry and a master’s degree in international development from the University of Pittsburgh. He serves on the boards of directors for the School of Field Studies and Emerging Wildlife Conservation Leaders. He is also a member of the advisory boards for America Adapts Media and ee360 for the North American Association for Environmental Education.

   Lead multiple cross-organizational teams that serve institution-wide functions, including strengthening social and ecological resilience outcomes throughout WWF’s conservation initiatives. • Provide thought leadership and external representation on Locally Led Adaptation and Nature-based Solutions for climate change.• Cultivate collaborative relationships with global civil society organizations, businesses, and academia.• Develop and oversee an integrated and cohesive organization-wide climate change strategy that puts people at the center of WWF’s work while advancing the organization’s conservation mission.• Build awareness and develop key competencies among staff on emerging topics such as climate risk management, Nature-based Solutions, and monitoring, evaluation and learning for resilience. • Lead the WWF Network engagement on climate change adaptation in NDCs and in National Adaptation Plans and provide guidance on US government adaptation and resilience policy.• Build, manage, and secure funding from government, corporations, individuals, and private foundations for a growing portfolio of climate change adaptation and resilience projects.• Manage a team of 8-10 climate change adaptation professionals while seeking to increase diversity of the WWF climate change team.• Serve as a thought leader with a strong internal and external profile and as the deputy lead for the WWF US climate change program.
