About Shaun Coleman

I am a serial entrepreneur and investor with over 30 years of experience creating innovative and disruptive companies, these include computer security, networking, cloud computing, app containers, virtualization, govtech and aerospace & satellite technology. I have worked in engineering, sales, and marketing including over 25 years of software product management.I have founded five startup companies; NewSpace Networks, acquired in 2022 by SEMPRE.ai, which was focused on reshaping space based communication. Previously: Vector Launch/GalacticSky acquired in 2020 by Lockheed Martin, CloudVolumes which was acquired in 2014 by VMware and is now known as VMware App Volumes. This acquisition was named one of the Five Strategic Acquisitions That Reshaped VMware by Forbes; Reconnex which was acquired in 2008 by Intel/McAfee and Pyis Systems an early network virtualization company.I have had the privilege of directly contributing to several disruptive Internet and space technologies including the only truly software-defined satellite, the first VDI (Virtual Desktop Infrastructure) broker, one of the first SSL-VPN appliances in the market, one of the first commercially available data loss prevention (DLP) products. Early iterations of software digital rights management (DRM) used to prevent piracy of movies and music, as well as helping to contribute to early Internet communications standards such as 802.11a WiFi as well as DOCSIS 1.0, which was the first telecommunications standard used to provide secure Internet access via a cable modem.I also ran OrionBBS from 19••••95. Started out the spare bedroom at my parents house, OrionBBS was a dial-up Bulletin Board System with over members focused on space.I currently have 49 issued US patents in the Networking, Cryptography, Virtualization, and Satellite communications/imaging subject areas with several others pending.Specialties: Space Technology, Containers, Virtualization, Computer Security, Cryptography, Networking, Product Management, Entrepreneur, Angel Investing, and Product MarketingHobbies: I enjoy racing and restoring old cars, I hold several professional racing licenses and often race in historic events throughout the country.
