About Shauna Keating

I have worked as a designer and engineer for the last decade across many different industries including government, insurance, SaaS platforms, and ecommerce. I have a specialized skill set that make me particularly well suited to build and maintain design systems, which I have been focused on in my last several roles, both in leadership and senior practioner roles.Over the course of my career I have worked within a variety of different constraints and evolving technology to ensure component based deign systems are designed for our end user needs, but also the design, engineering, and other stakeholders that interface with them every day and user them to complete their work. Since the start of my career, I have had a focus on inclusive design and accessibility compliance. I believe resources such as the WCAG and Section 508 are important, but also as designers we can go further to deliver an equitable experience to all our users. Part of how I ended up finding myself in a career centered around software is my love for writing code an learning engineering skills. Since I started working in the field in design roles, I have always been immersed in the engineering side of what my team is producing. This has helped me optimize the process between design and engineering handoff on every project I\'ve ever worked on. Having the technical knowledge to be able to utilize tools such a visual regression testing and automated end of end testing can prove to be helpful on a design team.I have been a remote worker for most of my career.    Teaches Design for the Web I, which introduces basic web design principles. While we will concentrate on learning to write and style markup languages on the web, this is a class about visual problem-solving and user-centered design.Students learn basics of HTML, CSS, ultilzing Javascript widgets and add ons, and the basics of UX process using Miro and Figma. The course centers around incorporating accessibility at the start of the design process and integrating WCAG best practices into their code.
