WORK HISTORY
Housing Options Officer @Cheshire West and Chester Council
Chester, GB
As a Specialist Case Management Officer (Refugees and Asylum Seekers), I provide frontline housing advice and support, with a particular focus on assisting refugees and asylum seekers who have had to leave their National Asylum Support Service (NASS) accommodation. As part of my work. I complete Full Housing Assessments for each person that approaches the Local Authority for support, and conduct detailed investigations in order to generate a Personal Housing Plan (PHP) focused on the individual’s needs, goals and aspirations. Using information gathered as part of these assessments, my role involves making informed decisions on the Council\'s statutory duties for each individual, with an approach that incorporates the five tests of homelessness. In order to support those on my caseload, I collaborate with GP Practices, adult and children’s social services, Community Mental Health Teams (CMHTs), and others, to tackle the underlying barriers to being tenancy-ready. Additionally, given my work with vulnerable individuals, I ensure that I operate in a trauma aware and psychologically informed way, understanding as best I can the complex, often traumatic, histories of the people I am lucky enough to work with.
