About Shashwat Rathkanthiwar
With my interdisciplinary background in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (undergrad) and Nano Science and Engineering (PhD), my research philosophy has been to act as a nexus between the fields of semiconductor materials science, physics, and electronics for developing next-generation power electronic, optoelectronic, quantum and a host of other essential device technologies. My research focuses on epitaxial growth (MOCVD), design, fabrication, and characterization of devices based on ultrawide bandgap semiconductors with an emphasis on thermodynamics, kinetics, and point defect management during crystal growth, structure-property correlations, and carrier transport in these semiconductors. I have also worked on the epitaxial growth of 2D (molybdenum disulfide) and 1D (silicon nanowires) semiconductors by metalorganic chemical vapor deposition. In my research journey so far, I have authored 32 journal publications (14 as lead author) and 93 conference presentations (38 as lead author). I have received two best oral presentation awards, two best poster presentation awards, and a research excellence award. Four of my recent publications were featured as an Editor’s Pick in Applied Physics Letters. I have peer-reviewed >40 manuscripts for 14 major journals. I have chaired technical sessions at a few leading conferences in my field including the American Conference on Crystal Growth and Epitaxy, Compound Semiconductor Week, Electronic Materials Conference, International Workshop on Nitride Semiconductors, and Materials Research Society Meeting.
