About Shaseevarajan Sivanantharajah
I am an early-career Civil and Environmental Engineer with hands-on experience in both advanced research and infrastructure projects, currently pursuing my M.Sc. in Environmental Engineering at Lamar University, USA.My professional journey is rooted in sustainable water resource management, environmental microbiology, and water quality assessment. I have led research on antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) in urban waters using qPCR and amplicon sequencing — collaborating with institutions like Hokkaido University and the University of Ruhuna. My work has been published in peer-reviewed journals and conferences, including:1. Beyond Biomass: Reimagining Microalgae as Living Environmental Nano‑Factories (Environments, DOI: 10.3390/environments12••••21) — a cutting-edge study framing microalgae as active nano-bioreactors for pollutant remediation and bioproduct generation.2. Environmental Influences on Microbial Dynamics of Urban Waters in Southern Sri Lanka.3. Unveiling the Bacterial Landscape of Urban Waters in Sri Lanka: Diversity Patterns and Environmental Associations4. Quantitative Analysis of Antibiotic Resistance Genes in Urban Waters of Sri Lanka. Moreover, my work has been recognized with prestigious awards, including the Excellent Abstract Award with International Travel Support at the 14th International Symposium on Southeast Asian Water Environment, held in Malaysia.Parallel to my research, I’ve contributed to major engineering projects such as the Mahaweli Water Security Investment Program (MWSIP)—Sri Lanka’s largest water transfer initiative—working on tunnel construction, canal systems, structural detailing and quality control. My international experience includes academic exchanges in Japan (Kanazawa University) and South Korea (Incheon National University). During these, I engaged in environmental proposals involving livestock waste management and PM (particulate matter) analysis in urban areas.I bring technical expertise in hydraulic/hydrology modeling, lab-based water quality monitoring, environmental microbiology, infrastructure design and GIS analysis.
