As a Customer Assistant at John Lewis, I support customers across both digital and physical touchpoints, gaining hands-on exposure to real service interactions. My role involves:• Observing customer behaviours, identifying pain points, and understanding real-world user needs in a retail service environment.• Engaging with customers to help them navigate products, services, and store systems, building strong communication and empathy skills.• Supporting front-stage service delivery, from troubleshooting digital journey steps (Returns, Click & Collect, payments) to assisting at physical counters.• Collaborating with teams on day-to-day service operations, giving me insight into service blueprints, backstage dependencies, and operational constraints.• Translating customer interactions into informal insights that influence smoother service experiences.

ABOUT SHARVARI RAI
I am a Service Designer and UX Researcher who bridges the gap between digital interfaces and physical operations. With a background in Industrial Design and a Master’s in UX & Service Design from Loughborough University, I don\'t just design screens, I design ecosystems. My approach combines the tangible \"feasibility\" of product design with the empathy of user research. My unique advantage: I believe good design is grounded in reality. Currently, alongside my design practice, I work in frontline Customer Experience at John Lewis. This role acts as my live \"Service Safari,\" allowing me to observe real-time friction points between customers, staff, and backend systems, insights that are often missed. What I bring to the table: System-Level Impact: Experience mapping complex B2B and technical workflows, including leading UX strategy for documentation at Canonical (Ubuntu). Evidence-Based Design: Expert in mixed-methods research (interviews, usability testing, ethnography) to de-risk business decisions. Accessibility First: Strong command of WCAG standards and inclusive design principles. My recent work includes designing AI-driven health tech solutions and optimizing e-commerce service flows. I am driven to create services that are not just usable, but operationally sustainable. Portfolio: https://sharvarirai.framer.website
