ABOUT SHARON HOTCHKISS

I am a dedicated attorney with a passion for helping cultural institutions and nonprofit organizations thrive. My mission is to support these organizations so they can focus their time and energy where it’s needed most, making a meaningful impact in our communities.Early in my legal career, I was a civil litigator, successfully handling hundreds of cases involving real estate, intellectual property, and business disputes. While I enjoyed resolving conflicts, I realized my true passion lay in proactively helping people avoid disputes and protecting their assets.Over the past decade, I have focused my practice on serving nonprofit organizations, museums, and small businesses. I work closely with officers and board members, offering practical legal solutions for their day-to-day challenges.Practice Areas:Contracts and Negotiations: I assist museums and other nonprofits with drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts, including exhibition agreements, vendor agreements, sponsorship deals, and licensing agreements. My goal is to safeguard their interests and help them enter into sound, beneficial arrangements.General Counsel Services: As a trusted legal advisor, I provide strategic guidance tailored to the needs of nonprofit organizations. When a specialized issue arises that is not within my expertise, I collaborate with trusted colleagues to ensure my clients receive the best possible support.Trademarks and Copyrights: Intellectual property protection is crucial for nonprofits and cultural institutions. I help my clients register and enforce trademarks, resolve copyright issues, and navigate licensing and enforcement challenges to safeguard their creative assets.I am proud to represent two of the most prestigious museums in Dallas, Texas: Perot Museum of Nature and Science and the Holocaust and Human Rights Museum. Beyond my legal work, I am deeply passionate about animal welfare. I volunteer and serve on the board of organizations advocating for more humane laws in Texas, as well as on the advisory council of an organization dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating animals. I also enjoy spending quality time with my own rescue dog.I’m always happy to connect with others who share a passion for supporting cultural institutions, nonprofits, and animal welfare.
