About Sharon Cornu
As the Executive Director of St. Mary\'s Center, I lead a community of hope, healing, and justice. I am passionate about improving the well-being of seniors and preschool families in West Oakland by meeting basic needs for food, housing, and social connection. As a respected advocate for systemic change and equity, leadership development of people directly impacted by hunger, homelessness, and injustice has been a focus of my work for decades.With a Master of Science in Human Services and more than 20 years of experience in cross-sector coalitions, collective impact initiatives, and strategic communications, I have a proven track record of creating and sustaining long-term partnerships, securing new investments, and influencing public policy. I have published several articles, delivered presentations and trainings, and received certifications in social media marketing and community economic development.

Excited to work with graduate students in Public Administration at Mills College / Northeastern for PPUA 6507 on Leadership. The original syllabus was crafted by Gov. Mike Dukakis, who my father remembers fondly, and features topics like Leader/Manager, Effective Organizations, Internal/External Communications, Public-Private Partnerships. I added a section on leadership as performance (h/t theater fan @Dr. Mark W. Toney), generational and systems change, plus self-care and mentoring others. Looks like a great semester with interesting students! Inspires me to write a little.
