ABOUT SHARON L. FLETCHER

Currently, serving as the Executive Director of the Houston Freedmen’s Town Conservancy, I am responsible for overseeing organizational leadership, operations, project and program management, strategic partnerships, budget management, board development, and community building. With more than 17 years in public service for the City of Houston, I have served in Houston’s City Council, the Library system, and Public Works. Subsequently, I have led multiple key city and department initiatives that have positively impacted the lives of Houston’s citizens and workforce through civic engagement providing financial literacy, entrepreneurship, workforce development, and literacy programming and resources. Leading programs like the Liftoff Houston Small Business Plan Competition, Ready Set Bank, and Liftoff to Learning have earned recognition and awards like the Texas Libraries Association “Libraries Changing Communities” Award and the American Libraries Association National Conference Spotlight. These programs highlight the significance of managing diverse corporate partnerships, program and project management experience, and citizen advocacy. As Deputy Chief of Staff, managing the district’s budget which includes the Council Service District Fund and the office operating budget; along with implementing and managing council member-approved special projects in support of council agenda and public policy. Additional responsibilities included overseeing and managing staff; advocating for constituents, attending, and speaking at special events to represent the Council Member and the most active District in the city.As the owner of Chic Collective Group, an event and project management firm, we plan, produce, and manage events and projects; along with creating marketable brands for clients that ensure growth and sustainability.
