ABOUT SHARON HILDEBRAND
I am Dene Koyukon Athabascan dedicated to strengthening Tribal sovereignty, uplifting Indigenous voices, and advancing opportunities for Alaska Native communities. I currently serve as President and Chief/Chairman of the Tanana Chiefs Conference, representing 42 Tribes across Interior Alaska. In this role, I work alongside Tribal leaders to guide strategic direction, strengthen governance, and ensure programs and services reflect the priorities and values of our Tribal communities.My leadership is grounded in listening to our people and honoring the knowledge carried by our Elders and Tribal leaders. I believe the strongest solutions come from our communities, and my work focuses on building partnerships that support the health, well-being, and long-term sustainability of our Tribes.I am currently pursuing a PhD in Indigenous Studies at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, where my research focuses on Missing and Murdered Indigenous People (MMIP) and leadership landscapes. My goal is to elevate Alaska Native research and contribute to solutions that address systemic disparities affecting Indigenous peoples at the statewide, national, and global levels.My professional experience spans Tribal governance, nonprofit leadership, corporate and energy sectors, and public policy. Throughout my career, I have worked to strengthen collaboration among Tribal governments, community organizations, and state and federal partners to advance initiatives in healthcare, rural development, social services, and cultural preservation.Guided by traditional values of respect, humility, and service, I remain committed to ensuring our Tribal voices are heard, our sovereignty is strengthened, and our future generations have the opportunities they deserve.
