About Sharmin Akter
I am a staff engineer (air quality) at Epsilon Associates, Inc. I use air quality dispersion modeling - AERMOD to conduct analysis emissions from sources. I model and estimate air pollutants concentrations and their potential impacts on environment along with human health. I perform risk assessment analysis to better assess overall health consequences from air pollution. I work on technical reports for operating permit applications for various clients. I have over five (5) years of experience as a graduate research assistant at University of Connecticut (UCONN). I completed my PhD in Environmental Engineering with a focus on air quality modeling and data analysis. My research was focused on tracking the major sources of atmospheric pollution deposition and its impact on watersheds and living organisms. I used high-performance computing resources to run an air quality model CAMx across the United States. Besides, I also worked on evaluating indoor air quality and its impacts on human health. I was involved in deploying and testing the efficacy of a low-cost and DIY Corsi-Rosenthal box air filter along with air sensors to improve indoor air quality. I am also familiar with ArcGIS online, ArcGIS storymaps, How’s my waterway, and ESRI. I like to learn novel tools and techniques in the field of air quality.
