ABOUT SHARMIN A JULIE

With over a decade of teaching experience in the UK and internationally, I am an early-career researcher in Sustainable Supply Chain Management (SSCM) with an interdisciplinary background in logistics, operations management & social science research. My work examines the human & social dimensions of global supply chains, focusing on employee engagement, social sustainability & humanitarian logistics in emerging economies.My research agenda is shaped by both scholarship & lived experience. As a student at the University of Dhaka, I witnessed the aftermath of the Rana Plaza collapse (2013), a pivotal event that exposed systemic social risks in global supply chains & defined my commitment to responsible operations. Since then, I have worked at the intersection of operations management & societal wellbeing, collaborating with academics, civil society organisations & marginalised communities.I hold a PhD in Logistics and Operations Management (Cardiff University, 2024) supported by an MSc in Social Science Research Methods. My research makes an original empirical contribution by demonstrating employee engagement as a moderated mediator of sustainable performance in the Bangladeshi garment industry, addressing a recognised gap in SSCM literature using advanced techniques, including PROCESS macro analysis.Alongside research, I demonstrate research independence & external impact. I have secured competitive funding as a named applicant, including funds from Joseph Rowntree Foundation (2025), Cardiff Shared Prosperity (2025) & a research workshop grant from Learned Society of Wales (2023). I serve as an advisor to the Bangladeshi Women’s Association of Wales (https://bwaw.org.uk/) & have co-established an academic–civil society network, delivering interdisciplinary workshops on sanctuary, anti-racism & refugee education. I am currently involved in a collaborative initiative aligned with the Well-being of Future Generations (Wales) Act, particularly the goals of \'A More Equal Wales\' and \'A Globally Responsible Wales\'.At USW, I am Module Leader for Project Management, Strategic Operations Management & Commercial Relationships, integrating research-led and policy-informed teaching. I hold AFHEA status & a PGCert in Higher Education Teaching & contribute to public scholarship & practitioner engagement.I am a member of the British Academy of Management & a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT). My work aligns with UN SDGs 8 & 10 and contributes to debates on ethical procurement, social sustainability & inclusive global economies.
