ABOUT SHARAD CHANDAK

I am a career banker with over three decades of extensive experience in various leadership roles within the State Bank of India (SBI) in India and the UK. Currently I am on the board of SAMBHV Steel Tubes Ltd, SMS Ltd and RKTC Infratech Ltd as a Non-Executive Independent Director. My last assignment in SBI was Chief General Manager of Lucknow circle, where I led a robust team of over members with a vision of Business with Compliance. I was responsible for steering operations of 1800 branches and processing centres across 58 districts of Uttar Pradesh with an asset exposure of INR crores and a deposits book of INR crores.Serving SBI since 1988 has been a journey of profound learning and leadership. Having joined SBI as a Probationary Officer, my initial roles spanned diverse responsibilities, from Field Officer (credit analyst) in rural areas to Branch Manager in bustling urban centres in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra. I also got an opportunity to work extensively in credit underwriting and managing SME and Mid-corporate advances. Among my notable roles, as the GM and Sector Head of the Steel Sector at Stressed Asset Resolution Group, I undertook the crucial task of managing a stressed asset portfolio amounting to INR crores and achieving significant resolutions through Restructuring, Change in Management, Debt Assignment, ARC Sale, Sale through Swiss Challenge Method, OTS, NCLT, etc. This foundational experience was pivotal when I assumed the role of CEO of SBIUK Ltd. This role was marked by a transformational journey where I steered the subsidiary’s foundation years, strengthening the Risk and Compliance framework, achieving a balance sheet growth of 90%, and championing the motto of ‘Profit with Compliance’. Additionally, as the Regional Head of UK Operations, I oversaw a substantial growth in the balance sheet, even amidst challenges like Brexit and the COVID pandemic. As a Government nominee director on the Board of IIFC (UK), I worked collaboratively with fellow Board members playing a pivotal role in enhancing board effectiveness by promoting transparency, accountability, and good governance practices.My career encapsulates a persistent dedication to growth, innovation, and maintaining the highest standards of compliance, underlined by my steadfast commitment to excellence in the banking sector.
