About Shannon Okey

Writer, editor, publisher, event producer, teacher and trainer with dozens of books, magazine columns/articles, television appearances and speaking engagements under her belt (including SXSW and O\'Reilly\'s Tools of Change publishing conference). Strong skills in publishing and event management. Certified Scrum Product Owner and Scrum Master working towards PMP. Over a decade ago I founded Cooperative Press, an innovative small publisher that takes full advantage of digital and technological advances to promote, create and distribute our titles. I also have hands-on experience managing large local events (one of which attracts more than attendees each year with 130+ onsite vendors), and doing nontraditional marketing work, including social media, as well as teaching/presenting to a wide variety of audiences. Previously, I worked in the technology and financial industries and have extensive international experience. I am multilingual, holding an advanced German language certification (Zentrale Mittelstufenprüfung) from the Goethe Institut, with French, Czech and reading knowledge of several related languages. My Ohio University degree included a triple major in German, political science and history, cum laude. I interned with the U.S. Department of State in its Munich consulate, and held a Defense Department-funded National Security Education Program fellowship in Prague.
