About Shannon Kraus
Shannon, is a design architect, published author & speaker professionally focused on improving community health and well-being through design. With over 20 years of planning and design experience focused on healthcare, Shannon has been an integral part of the development of health facilities, neighborhoods and communities throughout the United States and abroad. His work has been pushing to improve health through design, and has been honored with design awards from both the AIA, and Modern Healthcare, and has been recognized in publications such as World Architecture News, Healthcare Design, and Hospitality Design magazines.A provocative thought leader, Shannon has served on the AIA’s multi-disciplinary Design Health Leadership Group, which is tasked to empower architects to enhance human health through the power of design in all building types. He has also served as a resource member for the National Endowment for the Arts funded National Session of the Mayors Institute for City Design. His passion for how design impacts of the health of communities was the focus of his TEDx in 2017.Shannon is a board-certified healthcare architect by ACHA and was a contributing author to the FGI Guidelines for Healthcare Construction. In 2005 he served as National Vice President on the American Institute of Architects Board of Directors where he helped organize and lead the organizations knowledge and research agenda. In 2007 he founded the HKS Design Fellowship which continues today with helping address community-based design needs.In recognition of his contributions, in 2008 he was named one of building design and constructions 40 under 40. In 2013 he was named Fellow by both the American Institute of Architects and the American College of Healthcare Architects.Shannon, his wife Gail, and their amazing kids live in Maryland where they enjoy being active in nature and look for ways to help improve the health of their own community.
