About Shannon Kessner

Over 20 years of technical and leadership experience. Currently leading AWS Incident Detection snd Response function in support of large global customers, after five years leading an engineering organization supporting enterprise customers in their use of AWS services. These responsibilities encompassed the areas of AI, big data, analytics and compute services. I am also driving initiatives to educate thousands of engineers globally on effectively integrating AI tools into their daily work. I have led global teams at scale across application development, cloud engineering, quality assurance, automation, infrastructure and service management. I have done so in industries such as cloud services, airline, cybersecurity, and retail. Have been responsible for enterprise migrations to cloud and managing partnerships with all major cloud service providers. Built a centralized cloud engineering organization in support of both consumer and enterprise focused product teams to streamline product delivery. I have led implementation of leadership development and mentoring programs across multiple companies. Additionally, I have driven the rollout of an enterprise wide rewards and recognition platform and program. Drove standardization of KPIs and reporting for weekly business reviews across the enterprise, inclusive of associated dashboards. Currently overseeing the execution of an enterprise wide initiative to provide training to both potential and current leaders across the company.

Onboarded workloads are monitored 24x7 by a team of Incident Management Engineers (IMEs) to detect and engage you on a call bridge within 5 minutes of a critical alarm. AWS Incident Detection and Response begins with a review of your workloads for reliability and operational excellence. AWS experts work with you to define critical metrics and alarms that provide improved visibility into the application and infrastructure layers of your workloads, making it easy to find and prioritize issues during an incident. AWS Incident Management Engineers continuously monitor your workloads, detect critical incidents, and engage you on a call bridge with the right AWS experts to accelerate the recovery of your workloads. All incidents are managed with the highest level of severity and escalation, and AWS remains engaged until the incidents are resolved. Lessons learned from previous incidents inform improvements to response plans and workload architecture, driving a continuous improvement cycle to improve the resiliency of your workloads.
