About Shannon Ames

I serve as the Executive Director of the Low Impact Hydropower Institute (LIHI), an organization that helps promote and support sustainability in hydropower to be an eco-friendly alternative energy solution. At LIHI, we create and share best practices around hydropower design and generation, and our industry-leading certification serves as a benchmark of excellence for those organizations looking to not only create hydropower but also improve the rivers and communities from which hydropower is generated. We bring together hydropower operators, conservation groups, policy makers, and other stakeholders to hold both new and existing facilities to stringent impact standards. This type of high-stakes, high-profile work weaves together many core themes from my background, including leadership roles in various Boards, corporate, and nonprofit settings; financial and resource stewardship; nationwide stakeholder engagement; legislation and policy development working to deliver landmark environmental legislation; nonprofit leadership; commercial development; organizational transformation, and a deep commitment to sustainability and protection of nature.
