ABOUT SHANNON BEETS

As an academic professional with over twenty years of experience in the field, I embrace new opportunities to make a positive impact in my community. I contribute as a leader, team-builder and problem solver within higher education. I have lived and worked in northern Nevada for the last fifteen years and I am passionate about serving as an active member of the educational and social ecosystem around me. I believe that strong colleges and effective non-profit organizations are key to the economic and social future of our state and country. It is my goal to use my professional expertise to help build and grow healthy, innovative institutions within our community. As a first-generation college student, I am committed to access, opportunity and equity for all people. Currently, I\'m the Director of Evaluation and Assessment at UNR School of Medicine where I am honing my skills at evaluating active, applied learning. As the manager of the Simulation Center I have the opportunity to think creatively about assessing complex technological simulations and human-centered patient simulations. I\'m also looking for new ways to gather data and track learning during imbedded clinical experiences.Prior to this position, I spent nine years as Provost and Executive Vice President of Sierra Nevada University, where I oversaw a multi-million dollar budget and supervised hundreds of employees in the following divisions: undergraduate faculty and academic programs; graduate faculty and academic programs (located at three different campuses and online); graduate and undergraduate admissions and enrollment services; academic support services (including persistence, retention and completion); library staff; athletics; registrar; institutional effectiveness/assessment; instructional design; and student services/residential life. I consider myself a collaborative leader who believes in seeking input and listening to the needs of all constituents before developing a solution that solves a problem or defines a strategic path. Over the years, I have been particularly good at bringing together the concerns and priorities of board members, administrators, community members, students and faculty. I strongly believe that the best outcomes include mutual benefit and understanding for all parties.I believe I have particular strengths in the areas of change management, compliance and accreditation, strategic planning, curriculum design and assessment, budget and program management, teaching/training and teambuilding.
