In 2020, launched the writing alignment initiative to help improve student writing and to support teachers with writing instruction. This project helped establish norms across contents and grade levels to provide students with consistent and equitable writing instruction in all classes. I created lessons, resources, and held office hours for teachers to ensure success of this project. By the end of the 20••••21 school year, 75% of students had met the year 1 progress goal.In the 20••••22 school years, KIPP TEAM Academy 5th graders outscored the KIPP NJ network on ELA assessments both during virtual (2020 - 21) and in-person instruction.

ABOUT SHANNON MARSHALL
I love a big project that seems like it might never end (think: 1500 piece puzzle). That feeling of \"oh, just one more\" to \"I\'m done!\" is something I have thrived on since I was 17 years old impeccably folding shirts at a sporting goods store. At my very first office job, I received a lot of papers held together with rubber bands. When the amount of rubber bands surpassed the amount to make a neat pile, I learned how to create a rubber band ball. By the end of my tenure at the office, I had created a rubber band ball that was approximately 10 inches in diameter. Why? Because I invest my whole self in my projects no matter how long or short they make take (or how serious or lighthearted the task may be). As an educator, that project has been helping students learn to read. I research current methods and new theories and then put them into practice the best I can. I analysis, diagnose, and revise lessons and strategies to better suit my students\' needs. This project isn\'t about me. It\'s about bettering the future of children. During my time as 5th grade teacher, my students consistently outscored their peers on assessments and showed growth on internal assessments. I, too, climbed the teacher rubric ranks to become a high performing teacher. Over the past few years, I\'ve engaged in various other projects that include: keeping 30+ house plants alive (mostly alive.), training 2 dogs, buying and renovating a home, learning calligraphy, and joining a shuffleboard team. To each thing, I devote and invest myself in learning how to do things the best I can. I am always looking to grow both professionally and personally (to be honest, I\'ve never actually done a 1500 piece puzzle.)
