ABOUT SHANGWEN CHIU KENNEDY
Shangwen Chiu Kennedy is an urban designer and property developer who focuses on creating environments that are sustainable, regenerative and life-giving. The places she creates enhance the quality of life and wellbeing of occupants, while demonstrating next level environments for other industry experts. Her and her projects have won numerous awards for innovative and sustainable living. Shangwen is best known as the owner and developer of The Inn at Moonlight Beach, a leading wellness-hospitality boutique hotel. Appealing to conscious travelers, the hotel offers a transformative environment, where guests praise its sustainable and nurturing elements, a Zen sanctuary that quiets the mind and nourishes the body and soul. The Inn at Moonlight Beach also achieved prestige as the first hotel in the world to earn a WELL-Certification at the platinum level, and the first building in San Diego to earn a WELL certification. The WELL certification focuses on enhancing people’s health and wellness through the buildings where people live, work and play. The Inn also won the 2022 FIABCI World Prix award for innovative and impactful real estate development. Shangwen also developed a multi-family complex in Encinitas that exemplifies a sustainable, Intergenerational living environment. This is part of her series of EatPlayLove Communities, a network of large houses beginning in Boston that provide scholars and professionals the opportunity to connect, by sharing living environments, communal eating, and social events. Founded in 2010, the model has inspired similar communities in several urban areas. A Harvard-trained architecture, landscape, and urban-designer, Shangwen enjoyed a 20-year career planning and designing major international cities. Having witnessed persistent challenges in large-scale projects, she chose to focus on creating small scale projects that directly impact the way people live at home. Ultimately, Shangwen’s vision is to create extraordinary, life-giving environments where people experience joy, love and connection. Praise from others: Forbes.com “Reason #1 to visit San Diego is the Inn at Moonlight Beach!” Departures magazine: “The Most Unique Eco-Initiative from Hotels and Resorts Worldwide” Skift magazine: “[The Inn at Moonlight Beach] is shifting the hospitality industry.” The JWT Intelligence Report 2020, “The Future 100” article, named the Inn as a leading WELL hospitality destination: “The next generation of hotels is taking healthy hospitality to new heights, building health-enhancing elements into their very structures.”
