Staff Diagnostic Specialist @Rivian
Toronto, ON, CA
Collaborated on a cold-weather charge port HV isolation investigation involving water ingress into the harness, contributing to teardown analysis and failure documentation that informed an engineering seal redesign trial- Used Claude to generate Databricks queries against fleet telemetry to monitor subsystem performance trends, scope reliability issues, and quantify cost impact to support engineering investigations- Designed and shipped a React-based interactive schematic tool with exportable diagrams using AI-assisted development, replacing static theory-of-operation images and adopted into company-wide dashboards- Authored ADB-based diagnostic workflows for technicians connecting to vehicle infotainment systems, including trialed clearing procedures narrowed to targeted fixes, reducing unnecessary diagnostic steps fleet-wide- Explored workflow automation using AI-assisted tooling and scripting, including prototyping an ADB-based clearing script for low-setup technician use and trialing AI agents for automated data ingestion and Jira output.

ABOUT SHANE ROYCROFT
Diagnostic specialist with 10+ years at Tesla and Rivian resolving complex failures in high-voltage systems, low-voltage electronics, embedded software, and semi-autonomous driving platforms. I work on problems that exceed standard procedures, including hands-on tear-downs, fleet-scale data analysis using Databricks, SQL and JQL, and cross-team investigations managed through Jira and Confluence that drive actual engineering changes rather than just field reports. Alongside the diagnostic work, I build tools. While my background is in diagnostics rather than traditional software engineering, I use AI-assisted development to ship things that fill real operational gaps. That has included a React-based interactive schematic tool with exportable diagrams adopted into company-wide dashboards, a fully in-browser photo editor integrated with a custom CMS for direct publishing, and a Web3 proof-of-concept ticketing platform that prevents counterfeit tickets and automatically enforces resale price caps and artist royalties at the payment layer. What connects both sides is the same thing: find a problem without a ready solution, figure out a path, and follow it through to something real. Open to: Field Service Engineer, Diagnostic Engineer, Solutions Engineer, Technical Support Engineer, and Reliability/Failure Analysis Engineer roles. Location: Toronto/GTA preferred, highly interested in fully remote Canada.
