As Transition Coordinator my primarily responsibilities include working with non-traditional college students to transition them from GED, English Basic Skills (EBS), English as a Second Language (ESL), and other Adult Basic Education (ABE) programs into certificate programs offered through Continuing Education and Workforce Development (CEWD) and credit courses. I develop contextualized workforce-related curriculum, participate in orientations and provide structure and support in programming in student success, career awareness and employment readiness topics. In addition, act as liaison between South Washington County Schools’ ABE (ACCESS Program), the Minnesota Workforce Centers in Washington County, and partner-programs in the Minnesota State system of Colleges and Universities on issues related to student placement and tracking under the federally mandated Workforce Innovations Opportunity Act (WIOA). Additionally, I supervise and train the ABE/GED teacher(s) who provides reading, writing, social studies, math, science and computer instruction to students 17 and older and not enrolled in school, and help ABE teachers with planning lessons, incorporating the WIOA mandates, monitoring and assessing student progress on an ongoing basis, participating in the intake process as requested, creating Individual Learning Plans with students, and collecting, recording and reporting all necessary information related to students in a timely manner.
