ABOUT SHANE ETTER
You may not know me personally, but you’ve probably seen my work. From the earliest days of Video On Demand, I’ve helped make sure the solutions worked transparently for the customer. Then, I made it easier to troubleshoot and support while building a team of people that could sustain millions of customers. After a few years of this, I helped bring the next generation Video Server to market, scaling it while shrinking it by 10x what the industry had seen before. My customers might testify that I helped turn somewhat delicate servers into nearly indestructible ‘always on’ appliances which the industry wouldn’t grasp for another 10 years or so with so-called Cloud and Over The Top (OTT) streaming video. While I was there, I turned on the world’s first Start Over system 2 years before the rest of the industry. Combined, these systems hit 100M+ televisions downstream as the catalog of choices grew. It was here that I coined the term Solutions Engineer, a title I still think is accurate today. You probably saw my work. Or more accurately, you didn’t notice my work. This video workflow was fascinating but struggling to keep up with exponentially expanding content libraries, so I took ownership of a Packaging solution and brought it up to future-proof standards, collecting and delivering over 300k files per day, 10x the industry standard at the time. This delivered the highest quality video to even the smallest devices with an immeasurable rate of failure, and was upgradeable while online, unprecedented at the time. If you live anywhere in North America, these streams were delivered to all your devices seamlessly. These solutions I\'ve engineered have enabled my end customers to build video delivery services faster and easier by architecting new ways of doing things. Sometimes this is called “disruptive”, but I don’t prefer that term; to me, it’s just an improvement upon yesterday’s architecture. This is my forte: I am passionate about customer service and owning projects end to end, delivering products in stages from proof of concept to years’ worth of utilization, and making those products better than they were yesterday. The last three companies I\'ve worked for have been acquired for a combined $422M; and many would attest that I have played a large part in this because I over deliver customer needs, which yields satisfaction in solutions that last. I thrive in startup environments where I can earn new business by solving problems in the market by listening to ideas and helping them grow into solutions that work transparently to any customer.
