ABOUT SHANDA GENTRY
Mrs. Shanda Gentry is a native of New Orleans and a graduate of the famed McDonogh 35 High School. She also boasts a degree in Political Science and a Master\'s in Public Administration – both from the University of New Orleans. Prior to becoming Principal at Mays Prep, Mrs. Gentry spent two years as the Director of Curriculum and Instruction where she developed new teachers through targeted observation, purposeful feedback and relevant professional teacher development. Prior to entering leadership, Shanda served as a kindergarten teacher at Pierre A. Capdau Charter School. She also served as a kindergarten teacher and Teacher Leader to pre-kindergarten through 1st-grade teachers at KIPP McDonogh 15 School in New Orleans. She also served as a mentor teacher. Mrs. Gentry maintains a commitment to pushing her students to academic excellence, specializing particularly in the delivery of literacy instruction. She currently serves as the Director of Curriculum and Instruction for grades PK-2, where she looks to balance teaching age-appropriate social behaviors while maintaining high academic expectations.
