About Shams Tabrez
I am a Disaster Management professional and researcher with a strong interdisciplinary background in disaster risk reduction (DRR), climate resilience, and community-based preparedness strategies. Currently, I serve as a State Project Officer at Reliance Foundation, where I have been leading initiatives for nearly two years focused on capacity building, risk mitigation, and resilience enhancement in disaster-prone regions.My work involves close collaboration with vulnerable communities, local governments, and institutional stakeholders to co-develop and implement early warning systems, preparedness protocols, and sustainable recovery frameworks. I bring a field-oriented and policy-aware perspective to disaster response planning, integrating local knowledge with scientific insights.Academically, I hold an MPhil from IIT Bombay, where my research explored the effectiveness and challenges of Flood Early Warning Systems (FEWS) in India. I also completed a Postgraduate degree in Disaster Management from TISS, following a Bachelor’s in Geography from Jamia Millia Islamia, which laid the foundation for my understanding of spatial risk analysis and environmental systems.Driven by a commitment to practical, inclusive, and data-informed solutions, I am currently exploring opportunities for a PhD abroad with a focus on climate adaptation, early warning communication, and policy-driven resilience planning.I welcome opportunities for collaboration, research, and policy dialogue in the domains of DRR, climate action, and sustainable development.
