ABOUT SHAMIMA AKHTAR

I am an accessibility policy expert working to break down barriers for disabled people through public policy in the think tank sector. I am currently Chair of the Disabled Women in Politics Network at The Disability Policy Centre. I am visually impaired, an assistive technology user and recently supported the APPG for Assistive Technology, the ATech Policy Lab and the Higher Education Commission at Policy Connect. I have experience working on employment, education, accessible transport, digital inclusion, independent living and representation policy. I am passionate about coding and closing the digital divide - and serve as a Board trustee for the charity - Community TechAid. My background is in disability inclusion having worked on policy and campaigns as the Disabled Student’s Officer at my Student Union, an elected NUS officer and in the Disabled People\'s Organisation sector.
