ABOUT SHAKIR ALLAWI
Shakir combines over 5 years of full-time structural engineering experience in Hong Kong with nearly 2 years of working-student experience in LCA and sustainable construction in Germany, seamlessly blending his civil, structural, and environmental expertise. He has worked on the design and analysis of both steel and reinforced concrete structures, specializing in alterations, additions, and hoisting structures for heavy lifting works. He has led project teams, overseeing technical delivery, project management, and stakeholder coordination. Shakir completed his Master’s degree in Environmental Process Engineering (M.Sc. WASTE) at the University of Stuttgart, graduating with a grade of 1.5 (German system) and winning the Best Student Award. His focus shifted to Life Cycle Engineering in sustainable construction through interdisciplinary work with the Fraunhofer Institute for Building Physics (IBP) and the Institute for Acoustics and Building Physics (GaBi), exploring sustainability holistically and bridging civil and structural expertise with environmental concerns. His Master’s thesis, part of the RISKADAPT Horizon Europe project, involved developing decision-making tools for building renovation, integrating lifecycle impacts and costs to address risks from extreme wind events using a stochastic LCA approach with Monte Carlo simulation. Shakir is passionate about sustainability and circular economy solutions, driven by a deep commitment to addressing the urgent challenges of climate change. He studied Civil Engineering on a scholarship at the University of Hong Kong—consistently ranked among the top universities in the world (QS World University Rankings 2026:#11). He also earned the Highest Score in the World in GCE O Level Economics, a global pre-university examination taken in over 100 countries. His technical expertise, interdisciplinary mindset, and rich life experiences across Asia and Europe position him as a versatile engineer—ready to embrace innovative solutions for a more conscious, resilient and sustainable world.
