Cold Lake is one of the largest and longest-running thermal in-situ heavy oil operations globally. The field produces bopd (≈30% of Imperial Oil’s output) from wells across 15–25 wells per pad development. Notably, SAGD was invented at this very site by Imperial Oil’s Roger Butler in 1970:Led development of Virtual Flow Metering (VFM) solutions for SAGD wells as part of a real-time production optimization strategy, saving 3 - 5 million CAD (~1% uplift in production for 23kbd pad).Designed ICD/FCD/Splitters for injector wells for improving conformance, helping in improving production by 5% across the pad.Applied advanced surveillance and optimization techniques in CSS, SAGD, and SA-SAGD operations, ensuring safe and cost-effective production.Conducted post-steaming pad reviews and cycle pad reviews to capture learnings and enhance production efficiency.Performed daily and weekly well reviews to identify optimization opportunities, reducing OPEX while improving production outcomes.
