ABOUT SHAINA CAVAZOS
Before taking on the role of Director, Shaina led OEI\'s work in new school applications and charter school renewal. Since joining OEI in 2019, Cavazos has had leadership roles in each of the office’s focus areas: academics, finance, and governance. Before joining OEI, Shaina spent five years as a staff reporter for the nonprofit education news website Chalkbeat Indiana. There, she covered state education policy, including award-winning investigations of virtual schools, school funding, and segregation. Her work has also appeared in The Atlantic, the Indianapolis Star, and the Indianapolis Business Journal. Shaina graduated Magna cum Laude from the University of Missouri-Columbia with a master’s degree in journalism and bachelor’s degrees in journalism and economics.
