ABOUT SHAH KHURSHEED

I am Khursheed Ahmad Shah, a freelance journalist drawn to rural stories that often go unheard in mainstream media. I believe every voice matters and deserves to be heard. For me, every field visit is an opportunity for discovery. It refreshes my spirit and allows me to bring real life into writingI am deeply interested in covering and uncovering rural stories that rarely receive attention in mainstream media. I believe every citizen has the same right to express their thoughts, and no voice is closer or farther than another. Everyone’s experiences matter, and everyone deserves to be heard. These rural belts carry countless stories waiting to be told. They carry problems that remain hidden, foods that are still unknown and lives that are rich with meaning yet rarely noticed. I love learning new languages and exploring new cultures because it strengthens my understanding of people and widens my way of thinking. For a writer like me, going into the field feels like doing research every single day. It refreshes the soul. It reminds me why I write. And it helps me bring real life and real people into my words.Over the years, I have reported on climate change, rural development, education, and health, with my work appearing in The Xylom, Two Circles, Fair Planet, Deccan Herald, Media India Group, New Click, 101 Reporters, Indian Development Review, Greater Kashmir, Village Square, The Migration Story, Kashmir Life, Alfaz – The Words, Awaz-e-Barsageer, and several other platforms. My reporting has been recognized through the 101 Reporters Climate Story Grant and the Climate Change Fellowship from the Earth Journalism Network (EJN).In between my fieldwork and writing, I pursued my academic path earning a Bachelor’s degree in Multimedia and Mass Communication, followed by a Postgraduate degree in Journalism and Mass Communication from the University of Kashmir. My education strengthened my understanding of media and communication, but it is the everyday voices of people across Kashmir that continue to shape my work the most.Beyond print, I have contributed to radio and podcasts with All India Radio (now Akashvani) and collaborated with initiatives like the \'Youth Ke Baat Yooth Ke Sath\'. I have also engaged in public speaking, winning first position in the Kashmir Division-level debating competition organized by the Academy of Art, Culture, and Languages (AACL) in 2021, where I was felicitated by the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir.Alongside journalism, literature and poetry remains close to me.
