About Shae Padrick

The eukaryotic cytoskeleton is a fascinating collection of proteins and regulatory factors that allow cells to dynamically control their movement, cell division, cell-cell interactions. These filamentous protein systems also enable the intracellular movement and organization of organelles, vesicles and RNA granules. These essential processes are corrupted during numerous diseases including cancer metastasis and pathogenic infection. A fascinating feature of this system is that many of the rearrangements happen too quickly to be accounted for by transcriptional changes, indicating that most of the chemical logic happens through changes in protein-protein interactions. I believe that this complex system is fundamentally knowable. I am interested in discovering the molecular rules that govern fundamental cytoskeletal rearrangements, higher-order cytoskeletal assembly and how these rules are altered by diseases. I am applying our considerable fundamental knowledge in the discovery of novel therapeutics and therapeutic strategies. To accomplish those goals, I bring a comprehensive toolset that includes reconstitution biochemistry, quantitative measurement, imaging, protein engineering, structural biology, bioinformatics and kinetic modeling at multiple length scales.
