Project: CI-119 Replacement of Main Sewage Pump System (MSP)This project was considered so vital by the NYC DEP that my company was hired to perform both design and construction management services which is a very rare occurrence. The Coney Island MSP piping system, at 30 years old, is one of the oldest among wastewater treatment plants, with a common header system. The main vulnerability of the existing header system is that a single large failure will result in the shutdown of the entire MSP system. The MSP pipe system is at high risk of catastrophic failure due to its deteriorated condition. A discharge header failure would result in a full plant shutdown violating the plant SPDES permit and United States Clean Water Act.Therefore, one of my main duties is to coordinate construction efforts with the wastewater treatment plant, Engineer of Record, and the contractor while the construction work is progressing so as not to violate the federal code/law. Assisted with design corrections due to code violations where feasible via change orders-We are also making design changes to incorporate key items of another canceled project CI-113 whose scope included Replacement of the four diesel powered generators, modification of the 5 kV indoor switchgear, Control Room upgrades, and Electrical Room expansion.Responsible for the financial performance of the project and ensuring adherence to schedule especially as it an NYSDEC consent order project.Project is in the third year of its four-year duration.
