About Shabina Rayan
When I started my undergraduate year at the University of Southern California back in 2014, I knew I wanted to be an engineer. However, computer science was at the bottom of my list. The biggest reason being that I was never exposed to coding in high school or earlier on in my life. I never really thought of it as an option. After having one very passionate professor who encouraged me to give Computer Science a shot based on my affinity for math, logic problems, and team problem solving. I decided I would try out a semester. From that point onwards, I loved coding.(Yes, I had my fair share of frustrations and bugs). The feeling when you have been working on a project for hours and all the components you have built finally click together is unbeatable. Creating something from scratch that you can use is really an empowering feeling.I switched my degree to Computer Science & Business Administration during my sophomore year at USC, and I found what I wanted to pursue in the long-term. I am happy to have landed at Sonos - a company who values music and the quality at which we listen to it.Since 2018, I have worked at Sonos and have worked with different teams. I have gained knowledge of how data migration / cloud computing–based data tools works, how to develop within a shared coding library (C++) and extend the code to the platform level (iOS and Android), and I\'ve also learned about networking since Sonos primarily is a WiFi-reliant product. As of summer of 2023, I have taken a leap of fate and left my corporate job to travel the world for 6 months! I am still coding in my free time and am working on a personal iOS project — however, I have been happy to take some time to explore my dreams of seeing more of the world. I am proud to say that I have earned the role of Senior Software Developer, and I want to continue learning to be most well-rounded developer I can be!
